Location and size:
Shahrasti Upazila is bounded on the north by Kachua Upazila, on the west by Hajiganj Upazila, on the south by Laxmipur District Ramganj Upazila and Chatkhil Upazila of Noakhali District, on the east by Manoharganj Upazila and Laksam Upazila of Comilla District and on the northeast by Baruda Upazila of Comilla District. The area of the upazila is 154.61 sq km (36,255 acres).

Administrative area:
At present there is 1 municipality and 10 unions in Shahrashti upazila. Administrative activities of the entire upazila are under Shahrasti police station.
History:
In 1983, with the efforts of the then IG Md. Hossain Ahmed and Secretary of the Ministry of Family Planning Dr. Chattar, the journey of Shahrashti Upazila started with the eastern part of Hajiganj Thana / Upazila. The shrine of Hazrat Shahrasti (Rah.) Is located in this upazila which is made up of 9 unions. The common people of the upazila supported the naming of the upazila after Hazrat Shahrasti (Rah.). Since then it has been renamed as Shahrashti Upazila.

According to the 2011 census, the total population of Shahrashti upazila is 2,29,116. Of these, 1,07,600 are males and 1,22,418 are females. Total families are 47,139. The annual population growth rate is about 1.15%.
